I appears to me to be a 1999 Close AM. The norm.

It is indeed a 1999 CAM. This is the expected reverse for this year with 5,237,600,000 minted just like it.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.artToo many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time.

Variety I think, Coach John. I don't think it's legal to post websites, but I had run across this while searching. Thus the reason for my excitement. "The A and M touching on a 1999 penny is a result of mint workers accidentally using proof dies to strike coins meant for circulation. Only a few of these coins were struck before the mistake was rectified, making the Close AM rare. The 1999 Close AM pennies are desirable among collectors with some willing to pay as much as $100 for a piece." Stuff you see on the big I is misleading, right?

That quote is for the PROOF issue, not the business strike. All of the business strikes are CLAM and the proofs are WAM. However, mistakes were made and we have some examples of both varieties where the wrong reverse die was used.

Gigi - it is great that you are starting to see coins differently now, wit hall the different types, errors, and varieties, there is a lot to look for. Keep up the great work.
(BTW this cent is a common CAM cent)

Quote: The A and M touching on a 1999 penny is a result of mint workers accidentally using proof dies to strike coins meant for circulation. That quote has it backwards. They accidentally used a circulation CAM reverse die to strike proof coins, not the other way around. Mistakes like that send people on a wild goose chase. It's confusing because the opposite also happened in 1999 with a proof WAM reverse used on circulation coins, which is the one you want. It's great that you've learned to recognize it; I have to look it up every time it comes up.

I'm with ya on these postings/replies. It's hard to learn hearing different opinions at every turn. Being that no one is willing to tell us where to look to back up the answers we get here, are we just suppose to say , nope. No good. Forum says so. We come here for help from " experienced" coin folk. Sometimes I think instead of you seeing it that way and appreciating the fact that we respect you enough to ask , that we get treated like idiots. Maybe belittling a bit like we should have known.. maybe it's how some us "take the reply" I just look at it as we are here for help and " no it's common. " Alone isn't much help. It would be great to be told where we can go for more indepth info is all. I do know we are all human and all make mistakes. I do know but will not call out names on some folks saying some things are " junk" that have in fact been sold for a lot of money.
I have ask different forums about coins , missing letters , missing full words , a quarter missing a full tail feather. Forum members ( not only this forum is is used ) that say " spend it. It's junk" then turn around and offer to buy. I'm trying to sound mean by no means.
