A year or so ago, NGC started a parallel operation called NGCX which uses a 1-10 scale rather than the 1-70 Sheldon scale. They modeled this system after the current trading card grading system. There was supposed to be separate pricing and population information for the NGCX coins on the web site but I haven't seen them yet.

NGCX - Sheldon 10 = 70 9.9 = 69 9.8 = 68 9.7 = 67 9.6 = 66 9.5 = 65 9.4 = 64 9.3 = 63 9.2 = 62 9.1 = 61 9.0 = 60

Well that's a new one on me. Thanks for the information. Seems like another system just to cause confusion.

I can see it happening where people start sending in previously graded coins in order to get on board with the new system. The whole grading thing is out of control already and this will just add to it. Never been a fan of paying someone for their opinion.

huh. that's news to me, too. curious..
hmmm... we should invent a system where we take graded coins in their slabs from ALL of the TPGs and grade them on their grading & presentation. we'll make a fortune.

And then create a 3rd party company that grades our grades of the grading/presentation. Seems like an endless revenue stream! Isn't there a saying about a fool and his money?

Having a conversion table between different grading systems make all gradings equal?

Marketing ploy to make graded coins of interest to baseball card and comic collectors as most other collectables are graded on a 10-point scale.

I believe NGCX was launched in conjunction with the VaultBox promotion. Again, aimed at the trading card investment crowd.

I used to collect Magic cards, so the 10-point system is familiar to me. Like other posters said, this is probably to cater to the card collecting crowd. But if NGC wanted to get into that business, they'd have to compete with the likes of PSA and BGS. I agree that they shouldn't try to fix what's not broken.
