Seems like the early to mid-1950's are full of tapered planchets, but it gets harder to find them for the early years. This is a pretty nice one in decent condition.
Edit: The more I look at this coin the more I think it was mislabeled when it came in. I am thinking that with that strong rim on the obverse that it is more likely that the reverse lost a long chunk along the rim due to the lamination error, and the weak strike on the obverse is from that, not a tapered planchet.
