I found this last night and I tried to take this stuff off, but it seems like it's actually part of the coin itself.

Do I have a keeper, or just pm damage?

No doubt it's some epoxy or JB Weld. What have you tried to remove it with?

Fingernail, keys, whatever I had around me.

What do you recommend using to remove it? I just want to be 100% sure. Thanks!

I would start with 'Goo-gone'

But the question is, why bother? Is there something you know about the coin that you haven't shown us? If it's just a memorial and thre's nothing special about it, just take it to the bank as is.

If it is a DDO or WAM or some other significant Lincoln, why bother is right. I'd just spend it. Unless that is that you want to experiment. This would be a perfect coin to work on with different methods.

Thanks for the replies.

Chuck, vermontensium answered your question. It's just something to experiment with.

Okay, no problem at all. I just didn't see a point as far as the coin goes. If it's just a good test for the possibility that something valuable might come along, I completely understand. I've saved junk coins before just to test on them when I come up with a new concoction.
Rest in Peace

I've seen some stuff on coins that I really didn't want to know what it was. Yuk!
