I found this many years ago in Culpepper VA. Just recently viewed it with a magnifying glass to notice that it wasn't Civil War Era. Was wondering if it was something Spanish. Maybe cob? It's in rough shape and was found with a metal detector.

to the CCF, BrahamCracker! We'll need better pictures of the obverse and reverse (in focus and cropped), as well as the diameter and weight to be able to help you.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

From this one image, I agree with @keith that it looks like a Hungarian Denar. If it has Mary and the Christ child on the other side, then that would help to confirm. Pls post a pic when you have a chance. Thx and welcome to CCF.

I'd agree, a Hungarian denar, probably dating from the 1500s or 1600s. The coat of arms is distinctively Hungarian.

Close ups of the obverse and reverse would certainly aid in determining what it is.

I've tried loading an image of the other side. I'm no good at this sizing image thing. I located a 1535 Hungarian Denar and that is what it is with Mary and the Christ child on the front.
