I will assume based on what I have seen and read here that this would be a typical de-lamination of the planchet coin... There is an apparent crack that does not go all the way through the coin running through the word Liberty as well as an unusual blob running across Lincolns neck.

Plating issue. Copper plated cents do not have laminations.

I'm not so sure this is just a plating issue. As stated above zincolns don't have laminations. I don't know if they can have cracks. Almost looks like it's a crack going down into the surface a ways.

Deeper than the plating. Plating's only thousands of an inch.

There is defiantly a crack in the planchet that goes beyond the plating. It runs about 1/5 of the thickness of the coin down the side next to LIBERTY. the area going across Lincols face and neck appears to be raised above the impression.

Calling Silvio.. I was hoping he would respond to this. If anybody would know if zinc can have cracks, he will.

I intended to add this image of the reverse to the original post. No sign of the crack or what ever it is. The dark spots on the reverse in this image are some sort of black smootz.

Very cool looking! Not sure if it's a plating or planchet issue but here is a link to check out.
