Curious Crop Circle Around The Mintmark Of This 1971-D Lincoln Cent

Something I noticed though, there would appear to be a "halo" of sorts around the different digits of the date too, maybe a deterioration issue and not a punch issue. Brandmeister Pillar of the Community United States 6495 Posts	Posted 01/13/2024 12:15 am If someone struck the mint mark so deeply with the punch that the rim dented the die, then the feature should be significantly raised. Is it? To my eye it looks a bit sunken, and also the area around some of the numbers. I would speculate that it is Die Deterioration or maybe PIDT from the reverse. Report this Post to the Staff
