This 1984 $1 MOR looked a little bit unusual when I turned it over. I put felt pen marks at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and then extended them onto the reverse. It resulted in a 10 degree 'upset' - only one I have found for the 1984 coin. I think the "standard" for any upset is 30 degrees or more - is that right? Are these less than 30 degree 'upsets' a common occurrence? Just wondering whether to keep it in my "unusual collection" or boot it back into circulation.

That's pretty cool, SallyG! Were it mine, I would keep it even though it does not have great numismatic value - the cost of ownership is low.

It's slightly rotated. In my opinion, I would put it back in circulation. It's up to you though.

Thanks for the feedback. Its not a valuable coin so I wasn't worried about marking it - they'll wash off anyway. I just wanted to confirm that it was actually upset. I have noodled through over 250k $1 coins and it is the first upset I have noticed. I have a 2001 Fed upset that is virtually 180 degrees out of whack which is pretty cool but I have not heard of any $1 MOR upsets. I think I will add it to my "odds and sods" collection.

I have found one 2021 $1 MOR coin so far. I keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary - die chips/cuds, NCLT or upsets. That 1984 is the only MOR upset that I have seen or heard of. I just wondered if anyone else knew of any other upset $1 coins other than the 2001 Federation coins.

Hi Coaster, thanks for that info. I will add those notes to my list of things to look for while noodling. I wonder what my chances are of finding any of them are? So far I have noodled through at least 250,000 $1 coins and found one 2001 Fed upset and that 1984 MOR (albeit not technically an upset). Not holding out much hope but the hunt will continue.
