Greetings, all. I'm a hobbyist token collector/seller. I typically buy what comes into my local coin shop, or lots on ebay, then sell tokens individually on ebay, keeping what I'd like. I sell a mishmash of Encased Cents, transit tokens, older AA medallions, exposition tokens, merchant tokens, etc. I've sold a few hard times and civil war tokens. No US coins, no silver or gold. I only collect Conder and Canadian bank tokens, none of terribly high grade. 13 years selling on ebay, 20k items sold, extremely good ratings. In that time, the most expensive token I've sold is $175. I contribute a lot to TokenCatalog and any folks asking questions on ebay. However...I went to my coin shop the other week, and having gone through the regular drawer where he throws tokens and medals, I asked if there was another drawer. There was, and I pulled a bunch from it. Included in that find is this token. Thoughts on whether it's real? I've an old copy of Rulau, and it's an HT-28? There is a large amount of luster, in deeper areas on the obverse and especially all over the reverse. I'm thinking of selling, as it's not something I collect. If real, is it worth paying the $109 to join NCGS and get it slabbed? This would be my first time getting something graded.

Interesting token/Medal. Perhaps find a local dealer who already has a membership to get it slabbed for a smaller fee than joining? Looking at similar ones on the PCGS site it looks real to me but this is not an area I have any real knowledge.

Looks original to me. Ballpark raw is minimum $300, I'd say. It's worth slabbing and could grade AU. I've seen similar looking pieces that were "soft-struck" in the center. Great pick-up!

to the CCF, I too collect Conder Tokens, this sure looks like a real and nice hard time token to me, and not a common or inexpensive one at that. PS - Great user name!

Hello tacocat, I inherited a huge coin collection and within it are many antique tokens that honestly I havent got a clue nor the time to research them. Do you mind taking a look and I can let them go to you for chump change. You might find some that are of your interest... or I can send you the pics however you prefer. Thanks in advance. Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. I'll take a stab at getting it slabbed, one way or another. Happy collecting, and happy hunting.

@John1 - your note to tacocat was misdirected - it was not he that talked about buying or selling
