How did I know it was the infamous grospoissen!?

Good luck my friend, you should be getting a hang of grading these with so much experience.

Wouldn't the weak area on the reverse hold it back?

I'm seeing carbon spots on both sides, and multiple small scratches on Lincoln's head.

I did...and until you click and enlarge those images...you really can't tell how many little hits/ticks are allowed/considered 67's...
Yours is a 67 based on those shown...would it get a green bean 67...probably not.
Nice coin!

You would think! What has me confused the most is comparing them to 1958-D pcgs graded ms-67+ pictures on the PCGS website. Again and again photos are deceiving especially with the editing software. I find marks on the coins shown on the website . Luster is a big deal. I would not post a photo unless the luster is extremely good. My photos are at 20X-30X power on the scope (this really doesn't help me). With a camera I can never seem to get the right lighting. Basically, when I post it's for the strength of strike and contact marks. I always appreciate the input though. I have had some success with achieving a few ms-67 grades , but the number of 66 and 66+ always leaves me scratching my head. When the board seems it's a good coin then I take a closer looker look.

I'm in with MS65+. Appears to have some rub/contact marks on the jaw.

As you well know grading above 66 is though with pictures. There are so many factors that come into play with the ultra gem coins it's hard to say unless you can physically see the coin.

At least 66RD IMO

Maybe, depends on the graders and whether they consider it distracting to the eye appeal. I'd say for 65 and below it doesn't matter at all.

depends on who is looking at it. if you look at a number of 58D's you will see this on literally thousands of them. its typical.

i found several MS67RD graded by NGC that have that weak area
i did not find any graded by PCGS. doesn't mean they werent just I couldnt find any

assessing this coin and comparing the color and surfaces I doubt that it would pull a 67RD mainly due to the spots on the reverse and the fields the overall coin does not have the brilliance of a 67 coin. however, this could be due to lighting and/or these photos so I can't rule that out. the coin has a very clean shoulder and lapel area

MS66+RD would be my grade

here are the PCGS numbers slabbed
MS66 - 2003
MS66+ - 93
MS67 - 83
MS67+ - 9

65 seems very conservative.

I'll say MS-66 at best.
