Hello all. Since I consider myself relatively new at collecting, I wanted a go-slow approach so I'm not so overwhelmed. My Canadian collection consisted of several commemorative quarters, loonies and the odd misc coin. I met a few collectors here who are helping me gather the missing quarters and loonies for my collection. Then I ran into an ebay seller with a near-complete 1920-current penny collection for sale which I bought. The same seller offered a 1922-2008 Canadian nickel collection at a give-away price, so I bought that also. The latter two are instant collections. I almost consider it cheating as so many of you have been collecting for years, and I received then instantly. Now the seller offered to put together a Canadian dime collection for me. So there you go; looks like I'm gathering it all. The only problem will be the 50¢ pieces which I don't have much interest in. They will have to come at a much later date. The Toonies appear easier to get, due to their relatively recent introduction. I'm hooked, and I thought this would happen! Ken

Looks like your well on your way. Just a quick question....don't you feel you may be missing some of the thrill of collecting, when you buy those 'pre-assembled'collections from those sellers? On another note, did the cent seller include the key dates from the 1920's?

Dollar1948, of definitely, I feel like I'm missing alof when you buy an instant collection. It's the "thrill of the hunt" with collecting. There were a few of the key dates included in the penny collection, but some missing.
Missing are 22, 23 ,24 ,25 ,26 ,27 ,30 ,31 & 06P, so I have those to look forward to getting. And then there's always the 1920 large cents to seek out. It will never end!

SHAFTA9a, is did not include the 1925, or the 1926 "near". It did include the 1926 "Far" version. Apparently there are near and far versions of the 1926?
Those are the only two missing from the nickel collection, the 2 most expensive ones.

Wait until you get into higher grade uncirculated MS coins, especially Gem copper coins in the color of red, and especially the large cent series. Higher grade uncirculated MS nickel 5c coins are also a very nice series to collect.

Actually, matchbox, the 1926 "far" nickel is the most expensive, if you got one of those, you did really well.

OOOOPS..... no, it was the "far" version that was excluded. I received the 1926 "near".
Sorry about that. I read his description incorrectly when I responded to you. The 2 missing nickels are the 1925 and 1926 Far version.

I get my thrills from the hunt. When I score a nice specimen that I have searched for I really get excited. You build your collection any way you want. A time will come when you find the direction that you, as a collector will want to take. When that time comes you will still have the fully assembled collections to look back on. You must do what makes you happy my friend.
