Looks fair on price. Slabbed straight grade VF's trade at $2500-3000 right now. That's inflation.

I hope you got yours for much less. It looks polished with all traces of the original surfaces removed. The first coin looks like it could straight grade.

I got it for free for properly identifying it as a BB-158 counterfeit. Both of these have the common defect on the "R" as the 1970's examples identified by the ANA. The 1st actual example I saw was back in 2020 and it was in a TPG holder as genuine until the cert was deleted. I have looked for another since, and ended up finding these both on Thursday. I should have this one in hand later this week and am interested in the edge, which from the images appears modern/ current Chinese.

Glad you found them. So the second coin was pulled from ebay as counterfeit?

I was going to say "I didn't know you bought genuine coins!"
Good catch. That would have fooled me first glance.

The 1st example was pulled by ebay; seller acknowledged no sale and he unfortunately had bought it as genuine. The 2nd example is one that came across a Dealer's counter and is on its way to me, allowing a little better research in hand. And I do occasionally buy genuine coins ...

I had it as a counterfeit, but was watching the 49ers game and did not post. Deceptive counterfeit and I could not lock it in until you posted your coin. What I also found interesting is that the ebay coin was showing Die Deterioration at top of shield on reverse and your coin show's no deterioration. Thanks for posting. Here are some reverse tells on both counterfeits.

A fake that fools dealers is a pretty good fake. High quality toning, numerals and dentils.

I might be confused, but it reminded me of the coin you posted previously. I should clarify that I was referring to the overall appearance of the coin, not to any particular specific die markers. I apologize if there was confusion there.

Well I'm confused. How can you say "same old fake reverse" if you can't point to specifics?
