Hello,

Uncommon to find these in Rome. Obviously, this one has been beaten and cleaned or cleaned and then beaten...

Is it a tall date?

@zurie, I also kinda thought so which is why I bought it. I got it cheap so I figure it's worth further investigation...but why's anyone faking a common date worn large cent?

A bit of online research suggests that this is not the Tall Date.

@coinfrog, I wasn't sure because of the flattening; small date seems much smaller - even considering the flattening and large date seems large, but less flat haha

The giveaway is the 6, which sits lower than the other numbers in the date logo.. Definitely the Small Date.

Thanks @coinfrog

Oddly, the ONLY other large cent I've found in Italy was an 1846 small date.
