DRS, I am sorry to hear that you are bedridden, I hope you have a complete recovery. I will also state that most people here are very nice and kind, and I am sure they also wish you a recovery and hope to hear you are up and about doing what you use to do. I would also say that while I write to the members here something gets lost in the modern day communication between one another, this is to say I had no idea you were "not well ". I hope your friends receive the coins from the ceremony, if not let me know, I hope to do well and if so I ( if you need them )would send you some, Get Well Soon, thanks for all the information, What is the Post offices lady's name, I need to speak to her about the stamps, I have the # thanks to you!!

I was told to expect ( from the phone calls to the park )at least 3500-5000 people

That seems to be a very high estimate and Lincoln City, IN is way more rural that Hodgenville which had about 500 or so in attendance counting the school kids.

Quote:
4000 people X 10 rolls each = 40,000 rolls

This little post office could make a killing on stamp sales if just a fraction of the people get this done.

Now we need to make sure the mint brings enough coin to satisfy multiple trips through line and some boxes at the end.

40,000 rolls X 2 trips through line each = 80,000 rolls and... 2 boxes each for the 100 people left hanging around that will want those = 10,000

This equals 90,000 rolls for the mint to bring.
That's 1800 boxes. Sure hope THEY can pull it together.

Will be interesting to see if there are any left for the box sales seen at Hodgenville, especially since ebay sales confirmed that the staff selling the new cents bought the last 30 or so boxes of the 80 box inventory for their own ebaying.

For any Jefferson nickel aficionados who may be attending the Lincoln release, a mere 20 miles to the north on US-231 in Jasper is a bank that has a striking resemblance to Monticello. My wife and I took a trip to Holiday World a couple years ago and we stayed in Jasper. I noticed this bank and just had to get a pic

Can anyone help! I have been to my local Post Office and I asked them if I bring my own Lincoln stamps to Lincoln City, ( I just want to make sure that I have the stamps, with the expected attendance ) will the P O there stamp my rolls or boxes?
They told me they did not think I would be able to leave with the "coins' once stamped ( cancelled ) they said I would have to mail the coins to myself. I do not think this is the case, I will call Kaye, the Post Master @Lincoln City, tomorrow as her assistant, Robin, was not sure either. Could anyone explain how this works!
Thanks in advance, Mike....

that is quite possibly one of the dumbest things ever said by a postal employee

You just affix the stamp and they hand cancel it, nothing more to it.
I certainly did not have to mail my $5s back home from Springfield...

(I assume that this is the series of Lincoln stamps that you intend to use)

Morgans Dad,
Don't give them any weird ideas. Everything is in place for us already. She will have stamps available (quantity, good question, but she knows the expected crowd numbers) but it is a good idea to bring your own.
You will be able to take your rolls with you.

Bio, thanks for your attention in this matter, I have ordered the "Lincoln Stamps" there are also 4-types of stamps, they are in sheets and have the one you show for the "Railsplitter" and as a Lawyer, a Politician, and President.
I am going to use this "Railsplitter "stamp for this release. So I should not have a problem at the Post Office as far as getting the Lincoln City( cancelled stamp). I thank you all so much for the information, I don't know if people have checked ebay for the 1st release, dated and stamped from KY, these "rolls" with the stamp, cancelled, from the KY Post Office, They are selling for $85-100.00, per roll, if I was going to sell these, assuming I can obtain some boxes, this would be Very Profitable to say the least......Now we will see what really happens and who receives what, good luck to all, Mike... PS: So the key is to have the P O cancel the stamp and away we go.......
