This one is very light at 4.12g so a loss of detail would be expected. But it has enough areas of fairly solid strike that I asked Mike about it and from what he sees suggests that yes, it is just a thin planchet with loss of detail on each face where the highpoints are on the opposing face. Makes sense.

Interesting.
Since the rims appear to be weak on both sides @k1 on the reverse I would have though this one might be tapered.
But now I see the weakness isn't really consistent with a tapered planchet.

Aside from the weight, is there a specific giveaway that a coin is rolled thin vs. badly worn?

Sure, but unsure how easy it is to see in the photos. The high points on one side show up as weak spots on the other side. Not that grease-filled dies or maybe other things couldn't do that, but in conjunction with the lower weight that kind of has to be the answer. Wear occurs on the high points, not on the opposite side from the high points.
