$597. This is the terminal state of the large date 1837 Liberty Seated dime, Fortin 101c. The die cracks can be seen at K1, K5 and K7 in the obverse and the clash can be seen most prominently as a ray emanating from the right thigh of liberty (from our perspective). Thoughts? Thanks!

Very impressive, Numismatic Student! And it's a very lovely coin.

This is a complex piece with a lot going on. The surfaces at the upper left obverse appear to have environmental damage. The strike is amazingly strong given the die state. It looks like someone might have tried to strip the reverse, perhaps to remove ED, and it is coming around. As noted, the clashes and cracks are prominent throughout. And that is just for starters.

Thanks for the kind comments.

The Fortin-101c variety from Gerry Fortin's excellent Seated dime varieties online reference seems to match exactly the subject coin: https://www.seateddimevarieties.com...101cpage.htm
The variety also appears in PCGS CoinFacts but the PCGS MS65CAC graded example in Fortin's reference does not appear in the CoinFacts page suggesting that it is in an unattributed variety holder: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...-101c/537637

The following appears to be Gerry Fortin's analysis of the rarity of the 1837 dimes. It is also nice that he points out that the 101c carries a substantial premium.

Thanks!

@panzaldi - your coin is the large date and doesn't have the large obverse die cracks so it can be narrowed to two varieties:

Fortin-101 - Reverse A: Proof Die, Die Scratch Between Rim and S(T)ATES
https://www.seateddimevarieties.com..._101page.htm

Fortin-101a - Reverse A.2: Die Alignment Left 23 Degrees, Faint Die Crack Rim To (U)NITED - https://www.seateddimevarieties.com...101apage.htm

I can't make out the small die cracks near the lettering on the reverse, but perhaps you can identify the markers with the coin in hand.

This one arrived relatively fast. Clashing is more prominent and the doubling in the repuched "7" in the date can be easily seen. Further thoughts? Thanks!

Your pics are better...they show the clashes and cracks much better.

I'm not a seated collector as a main focus but I do have a lg date no stars 1837 in my collection and now I have a variety to nail down for it..thanks for posting and pointing those varieties out, I wouldn't have been interested in knowing until I saw this
Continued success!

Thank you @ironhorse. Glad you found it helpful. Shot a quick video of the coin as a flat picture did not seem to do it justice.
