Is this coin supposed to be this shiny due to its mint?

Do you mean because it's in mint state? It looks that way - very nice coin, Vegas107!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I have many 1958 cents, but this one really stood out. All the other's were not that recognizable. Was wondering about if it was real or altered

It is just a higher grade than your others,it would be considered "red". It also has what looks like "splatter" on both sides like from someone sneezing over it.

Too much glare to see surface details clearly.

When first made all pennies have bright luster. Circulation tarnished them to brown eventually. This is just one that did not see circulation. If you put your fingers on the surfaces, they will eventually turn brown and lose the luster as well. Currently your coin would be termed to be in mint state (MS).

To answer the next question people ask: No, it is not something to get graded. The initial cost to grade a coin is around 200.00 using NGC or PCGS b/c they have expensive mandatory membership (and other) fees.

ANACs does not have the membership fee, but they still charge enough that this coin would never be worth what you gave the to slab it.

How much squash could a Sasquatch squash if a Sasquatch would squash squash?

Nice Coin, shame about the spots on both sides.
