Hey all! I'm brand new so I hope I don't get picked on too bad here. I've done some googling and reading on the forums but I can't seem to find much about this specific coin. I understand that a lot of coins were used a science experiments back in the day so this may be that but I'm really not sure. It looks like an error coin to me and I was hoping somebody with more knowledge may know a little more about it. I have a great looking 1957 wheat penny(with what looks to be a bad strike on the L). It's silver in color and it sticks to a magnet. It weighs 3.23 grams on my scale. Is this something real or just something weird? I appreciate any input! Thanks!!

Welcome to CCF. To me it appears plated with something, which made it magnetic. There's a couple lumps of it on the reverse.

and I agree it has been altered outside the U.S. mint. It is now PMD.

When coins are plated it reduces the value to just face value, it does look cool so if you like it keep it for reference.
