Hello, at first glance the mint mark looked like an S. Asked my mom (who knows nothing), what she thought it was, she answered a "6". It's a strange looking D, that's for sure.

Appears to be a D with circulation (ding/hit) damage.

The focus is a bit soft, but I'd say most likely that the D mintmark has been damaged. Keep it as a curiosity if you want, but it's only worth face value.
