I recently purchased a group of 15 Morgan and Peace silver dollars set as coin jewelry. I was able to rescue most of the coins from the settings and will post those later this week. One item is a large sterling silver belt buckle with two Morgans and a Peace dollar set into it. I can not see a way to remove the coins so I guess they will has to stay where they are. Realizing they have little collector value in this state, I would still like to get your ideas as to grade. Also I found and interesting pattern of the reverse of the first coin.

Notice the lines are the lower part of the wing where it joins the body. These are not scratches but appear to be minted in the coin. I haven't seen this before. Have any of you?

Struck thru reverse possibly pieces of wire. No doubt has this coin has seeing a cleaning as most buckled coins have unfortunately. The obverse and reverse look pretty good having AU details.
AU details Cl.

Those are the characteristic identifying gouges of VAM-11, a Top 100 VAM. The attribution is a slam dunk - those are about the most prominent die gouges of any Morgan. That's the bad news - you've got a Top 100 VAM in a belt buckle. The good news is, it's not a really uncommon VAM, and available in high grades, so there hasn't been a whole lot of extra value destroyed here.

Technical grade? Good EF.

SD said this is a VAM-11 and I don't think its even close to a AU, the Obverse looks a little better than the Reverse (I guess the Reverse is the one facing outwards).

I graded it as EF also, now if I could only figure out how to remove it from the buckle.
