Hello, new member here and I'd like to share a couple pics of a 1997 Denver Washington quarter that has really strange surface damage /texture. I've looked at a lot of coins over the last 3-4 years, yes, I'm still a newbie, but this is a first for me and hopefully someone can identify. Looks to be suffering from post-strike damage caused by exposure to a corrosive environment. Assume the reverse looks the same?

Yup the reverse is the same. I've seen a lot of environmental damage on coins and it doesn't look like anything I've seen before. I Was hoping someone would tell me it's a planchette issue with the mix of copper, alloy whatnot..

What does the edge look like?
It is not an error,looks like PMD of some kind.

It can't be a planchet issue, as the striking of the coin would at least mostly smooth out the surface. Something like this has to happen after the coin is struck.
