I found a bag of coins in an attic last week at a friends childhood house. It has a very gold tone but also a very deep black tone. I mean charcoal black & goes brown where it meets gold color. My question is how would someone get the gold/black color? I have a mural made of Pennie's that would look perfect with the gold and black but I never toned a coin before only accidentally and usually crappy ugly colors lol. Mind you this penny was in a bag with other coins in an attic of a beach house. The attic got tons of salt water but idk if the bagged protected it as it was plastic and pretty well sealed. Does anyone here know how to get these colors? Gold cents are pretty common from what I read but no one wants to give up their secrets &

I'm pretty sure gold toning is pretty common on cents right? So should be relatively easy for a noob like me to do it I'm thinking.hoping. But like I said it's for a mural made of 129 Lincoln cents so I can't mess up #128553; only 1 shot.

Copper can take on almost any color of the rainbow in different environmental conditions.

Toning is the result of a coin being exposed to a variety of environmental agents. The toning on this particular piece may have its origins from the early 90s, and it got progressively pronounced over time.

I can't tell from your pictures but is your 1992 cent a Close AM (CAM) or a Wide AM ( WAM)?
The CAM is the one to look for on 92-P & D Lincoln Cents.

Just normal environmental toning. The black is the terminal stage and damaging to the surfaces.

Oh yes I know the toning and how it tones but I specifically want to know how to get the gold tone so I can tone a mural of Pennie's I have hanging on my office wall. But it is not a CAM unfortunately :( more than likely will just toss it in a 2x2 and shove it in my random coin drawer. But if anyone here knows how to specifically get that to "obviously fake" gold looking tone I'd really appreciate the info.
