Purchased a V nickel with a RPD.

Anyone know the classification?

It's not on NGCVareityPlus or LibertyNickelsCollectorsSociety.

Any suggestions on additional online references, published references, or attribution services?

I don't know about the repunched date, but the multiple die breaks on both sides are pretty cool!

I don't know much about errors, could be repunched date, Machine Doubling or doubled die, maybe likely Machine Doubling. If it's MD there's no added value. Others should comment with better knowledge than me. It's a nice coin!

I can see why you say that. The RPDs on this series may have some MD. I'm posting a reference image from the Variety Plus NGC site so you can see what a typical example looks like.

On my coin, you can see the doubling on the 1 is nicely rounded if you look at the image blown up, not shelf-like.
Also the doubling goes in too many directions on these to be only MD, which goes in 1 direction on a date.

In case it's helpful, Here's another reference RPD from the NGC site with MD like appearance on part of the date.
Maybe a mix of RPD and MD in this series?

You might find it on libertynickels.org, they have a varieties page listing 15 1883 RPD, you could also contact them and ask, email pics to them.

Thanks for the good advice Livingwater. I emailed them at bccs@barbercoins.com and got a helpful reply.
They referred me to their experts and let me know they're in the middle of a multi-year massive barber cataloging program, which sounds amazing!
Might be a good time to pick up some unattributed barber varieties while they're still unattributed.

I would advise that you collect them if you enjoy them, and not to make money. Cherrypickers gutted the Barber dime section in the latest edition and I don't see that attitude towards the Barber coin varieties changing any time soon. You might check Kevin Flynn's Treasure Hunting Liberty Head Nickels and see if it's in there.
