Kinda hard to see it coming out of the mint like that.

Bought a very large amount of Canadian 1 cent cases back in February of 2012 and have been in storage since. Chipping away at them. Always skeptical of this kinda stuff and never get the blood pressure to high. This coin is from the wild not a new mint roll.

Funny you said that Looniewy. I almost headed the post 2004 Canadian 1 cent with a US D Mint Mark
The font looks like a birthday cake icing nice and frilly. Anyway that little baby is going in a 2x2 holder

That's keeper for sure. Any evidence of damage on the reverse?

Quote: From the wild , likely a counter stamp If the "D" is raised, I don't think it could be a counter stamp. Can you post a picture of the obverse?

I think that one of the workers at the Mint was making a keepsake. It looks like the "D" is in a strange font and put together with 2 pieces of metal to form a D and then placed it on the field and made a strike-thru. Or, possibly it's just glued on there.

There are depressions around it and what appear to be tool marks, so I'm going to say it's somebody messing around. That's some very precise work though. Hard to believe they would just spend it. If it was stamped into the die by a mint worker, I'd think there would be a lot of them out there.

I took the coin and put it on edge to verify that it was raised. It is insured!!! I made a mistake on this post. Looking straight down with the microscope and the curvature of the mark reflect differently. It is no question a Counter Stamp. Maybe a jeweler had such a small stamp. Credit to you all you picking all the red flags of this coin.
