I began my Roman Imperial collection about 15 years ago. It's been a ton of fun hunting down the coins for this collection. I just won a Gordian II on CNG auctions and this emperor really represents the last unfilled slot.

Roman-Collection-Complete---Gordian-II
Gordian II (A.D. 238)
AE Sestertius, A.D. 238, Rome, 27mm, 16.98g, 0°, VF, RIC IVii 5 Rare.
Obv: IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AFR AVG. Laureate, draped & cuirassed bust right.
Rev: ROMAE AETERNAE. Roma seated left, holding Victory and spear; S C in ex.

This collection spans from Julius Caesar to Valentinian III/Marcian. There is one legitimate emperor that is missing, Constantius III. If money were no object I would get one but sadly, money is an object so for now, I just pretend he never existed. :) I would have also liked to end this series with Marcian/Pretonius Maximus to coincide with the sack of Rome but again, money is an object.

So what now? I still have some emperors that I would like to upgrade to better examples and I will be working on that. I am also considering adding some of the emperors with questionable legitimacy such as Magnus Maximus and others. I will probably review some of these candidates and some of them may get added in the future.

Anyway, you can view my Roman Imperial collection by following the links below.
Note: the query strings for sorting don't seem to get posted on the thread correctly so you may need to sort each album by Position ascending when you click the link.

Cheers!

Congrats! That's a big project and accomplishment! Thanks for the link to your collection!

Years ago I set about trying to buy at least one coin from every city and personality mentioned in the Bible that struck coins, some are common some very rare. I came close, just lack one or two.

Now maybe you need to collect all the different reverses, too!
