Same Ole' ebay questionable coin for sale.
I would never think of buying this coin but, why can't I tell if it's fake or not.
Any opinions on it's authenticity or fakeness?

Looks genuine to me but it's been cleaned. I'd max out at $400-500, the seller has it priced WAY too high.

Most fakes don't copy the eyelid or tie being doubled - this looks real but going to get a details grade for altered surfaces at the least.

Right on! If I was to buy a 55' DDO-001 it would have to be graded or some very nice raw example from a trusted source.
I have gone through my entire collection (my dad's before me) of 1950's LMC's and I didn't find any worthwhile 55' errors just some rpm's.
..and perhaps some higher grade Uncirculated examples.
But yeah, I think the "cleaned" look was throwing me off, making this coin look fake. Thanks for the feedback and links.

Yeah, no kidding - I sold one last year that was a really nice example but it wasn't graded and I had to twist the buyers arm just to get 1300$.

@DBM - that one looks very fake - the liberty is rotating clockwise, while the rest is rotating CCW.

Wow, not only are the photos shady, but the seller is shady as well!
..and yet there are 6 bids currently at $610.00
I would never buy that one!

what ever happened to "buy the coin, not the slab" ?

I do agree with that Dearborn. I want to add a '55 DDO-001 to my collection.
Likely will continue to search Heritage Auctions for a decent example.
