It's not widely recognized that the original compiler of a catalog of late 18th century provincial tokens, James Conder, in fact distributed one promoting his own business. Over 100,000 were struck for him by Peter Kempson, a prolific maker of these. The edge is milled (slanted reeding).

I've long loved the Conders for their artful, early pictorials. This one, somewhat less ornate than many others, still has such appeal, given its higher grade.
Back in the 70's, I was introduced to Conders when I bought a box of 90 assorted pieces at a show. The price averaged a mere $1.80 per coin. Given their beauty of design, I kept the better ones for many years and traded-off the balance. All gone now ....
