I'm just guessing if it could be an old British token?
The weight and diameter are important clues but not given.

@squash, yes please add the weight and diameter to this thread. Also, since we aren't sure exactly what it is, I'm going to move the thread over to the unidentified subforum. Once we get a positive ID, then I'll get it over to its final resting spot.

Yes I think it is a trade token - maybe a 1657 farthing of Newbury, Berkshire.

I sort of agree about the farthing because I think I was seeing elements that are similar to my 1649 farthing pub token:
Letters in center
A circle
Some sort of devices in between the letters on the legend

Oh thank you, it definitely is the 1657 Berkshire token! So stoked!

Does this piece have collector value? If so, how much?
Should the coin be cleaned and if so, how?
If you do clean it, please post before and after photos.
What did it cost if you don't mind me asking?

No! Do not clean! It'll actually ruin it. Fair enough if dirt falls off it fine but any cleaning will be invasive and may damage the surface.

Squashtowner - What an interesting find, and at a pawnshop no less. Your wife must have a great eye for unusual items.

She's been adding a lot of currency to my collection over the last 2 or 3 months. Picked up a near flawless 1935 KG dollar and a bunch of others.
