I recently sold this loose, cleaned 1810 CBH to a local coin store. They sold it to another shop/dealer in a different town, even in the same case I once kept it in. This coin was cleaned, especially harshly on the reverse, with EF details.

It's strange to see it on ebay, advertised as a "gem" and "uncirculated." The description is "Up for sale is an exquisite 1810 Capped Bust half dollar that is a true gem for any collector. This piece is made of silver and has a business strike type, with a fineness of 0.9. The coin is uncirculated and has not been certified." This dealer is asking $515 for this? Insanity! Here is a link to the listing. I will also attach my own old photos of the coin. I wish people were more honest on ebay. It makes me sad seeing my former coin become an instrument to gouge people.

Looks like the seller really sent the pictures through a photo editor to hide the cleaning scratches. No law against it but still - Karma will eventually catch up to him/her.

The title and details show circulated.

The description was AI generated.

I love the overused AI phrase "must have for anyone"...

Buy the coin, not the description.

Thanks so much for the commentary. I didn't think about AI at first, but I should have, and you are right, it certainly looks AI generated. I have no problem if people want to use AI for descriptions, but as an educator I see responsibility that comes with using AI. It is up to the user to evaluate the accuracy and quality of whatever the AI spits out. This seller clearly did not even edit/look over this description, making it misleading. The part that bothers me the most is "uncirculated" because it's an actual lie. I also don't like "gem," because while that's not technically lie because anything can be a "gem" to us, it's misleading when people think about the grading scale. I think people who use AI should embrace the responsibility of checking it for accuracy/

It certainly doesn't look uncirculated in the ebay images. Looks washed-out and cleaned.

That's unfortunate. And I too have seen that exact description on hundreds of listings.

I will play devils advocate.
You sold it . Then the person you sold it to
sold it to someone else .
Why on earth do you even care ?
No longer your issue as you were paid out .
Kinda creepy actually but I know of a guy who
bought a new 1970 Charger and to this day still tries to
find out who currently owns it .
That said it is buyer beware out there in ebay land .

Have to disagree. I think it's an interesting pursuit. Would you not be interested in what happened to an old house you lived in?

Presumably because OP's not an unethical, dishonest coin dealer trying to rip off unsuspecting bidders on ebay, unlike the current seller with their AI-generated garbage.

Certainly not his problem .
When you sell something
you no longer have any fiduciary
interest in it .
Not a healthy place to be .
