This came out from a fresh 2022 $2 roll. Looks like it's struck on foreign object or grease of some sort? What are your thoughts on it?

Just thinking out loud: red splotch (can't tell if it's raised or not) from a faulty blast from an inkjet printer intended for another coin?

That sounds plausible.

Except for the red colouring, the irregular outline and pitted appearance makes me tend more towards a lamination/planchet type error. Maybe a gentle acetone bath might reveal more?

Hi coaster, I did think it's lamination or greater filled.
Acetone might be tempting but I didn't want to wipe away what the red spot is.
Only thing that could have used this is the red color used for the color $2 coin.

Hi gxseries, based on what I know regarding the RAM's minting process, it just doesn't seem plausible that this type of error could occur on a 2022 Aboriginal Elder coin.
Mint sport maybe? Does the the red colouring appear to match the same shade of red used on other coloured coins minted around that time?

i think its a foreign object, odd tho, looks like a bit of chewing gum. >_<
I try to figure what the red stuff is without using a destructive method, maybe XRF might help shouldn't hurt to try.

Have you tried contacting the RAM to see if they have any ideas?
The pitting on the coin makes it look like a planchet flaw but that wouldn't explain the red color.
Very odd but a very cool coin. Lucky you to have it.

Surely that thing on the $1 coin could not be grease? I wouldn't have thought something like grease could cause such a depression in the coin? Really interesting and if it were my coin I would keep it.

coaster - I think the large images don't work well with mobile devices. I tested it and it works fine on my laptop but not on my mobile.
jens coins- thanks for the link. Might be something new the RAM is trying out but maybe causing issues.
SallyG - I will hold onto it. It's in a 2 x 2 holder.
I've tried a toothpick on it but it's stuck pretty deep in. Pretty interesting...
