Hi all,

Thought I'd share my two best dug early American coppers so far this year. I dig many coppers every year here in Vermont, but I'd say only 1 in 10 to 1 in 15 are actually worth putting in a coin sleeve or acrylic cup for display as they're always far too corroded. I just throw them in my junk copper jar. These two coins meet that criteria though, and while ALL dug early coppers have some degree of corrosion on them, these will still display nicely. They are an 1830 Matron Large Cent (Var. N-5, R3 rarity rating), and a 1796 Liberty Cap Large Cent (Var. S-84, R3 rarity rating). Thanks for looking. -John

Nice looking coppers!
I know what you mean about low percentages of dug copper coins staying in the keeper category...if one in fifteen is your threshold of good out the bad my numbers are even worse lol
I'm at about one in fifty! Just have dig upa lot more coppers to get my average up.

Finding coins like this, rescuing them from the elements, is a great pastime .... trophies from the hunt.

@BTV Digger .... Have you ever dug up any counterstamped coins?
