This is for a friend who wants an 1894 plain but only cares for it being real and is not concerned with condition, as long as the date is clear. Would this work? How is the price?

Thanks!

I'd recommend getting one that is certified. That is a G4-G6 coin I think, assuming it is authentic.

Does it look authentic? His ebay rating is quite good, it seems?

Thanks!

The seller is Panda America:

http://www.pandaamerica.com/index002d.asp

They are a prominent, reputable and widely-known dealer, specializing in gold bullion but dealing in other areas. I've bought from them.

They are a dealer, though, and in business to make money. That price should buy you F15 in a PCGS slab, and a VF raw coin. I'd advise passing on this one; it may just be the photography, but I'm leery of the originality of the surfaces. Either way, it's not more than an $800-900 coin, if that.

Large rim bump @8:30, that will eventually become annoying and you will wish you had waited a bit longer and found one without a ding.

While the seller has been a good one for me. This coin can be had for less and in better condition.

It won't grade with that rim bump except for a details or genuine grade. I'd say pass on this one. For that kind of money a coin should grade if it was submitted.
