I will not be buying any of these as a protest of no MORE presidents on coins. Who is with me?

Just wait....Now it looks like we will also get the "First Lady" coins too. I would much prefer they do more of what they did with the buffalo Dollar, Make large solid silver or gold replicas of old coins that had beautiful designs. Also, look at the eagle series, patterned after older designs. Could you just see a gorgeous .999 silver Barber Dollar...or Mercury dollar....how about a Seated Liberty dollar....and last, an Indian head gold 50 dollar...with the original flat relief design.

Just a thought! While you and I may not buy this series of coins, there are others, I'm sure, who are glad to see them issued. When it comes to coins, I have quit predicting if something will be a success or not. I'm very seldom right, so have given up the art of predictions.

If anyone chooses to collect these coins and are happy doing it, more power to them, and I hope they learn and expand into other areas of collecting.

Just my thoughts.
Rest in Peace

Sorry to go against the flow, but I remain excited about the new series. Several reasons. I was a history teacher for 35 years. New series are to me, exciting. And, if the Presidential series is anywhere as successful as the Statehood Quarters. they will educate, and lead new collectors into our hobby.

Besides, I can go back to the days I was a kid, and I remember there was never anything new and innovative on the horizon. What a nice change this is.

Old Dan, I commend you on your philosophy not to judge others and their taste in coins.

I as well will not be hoarding them, but I will do what I am doing with the State Quarters and that is make one set for each member of my family 3 kids, wife and me. like Gary said you never know the success of this set. I think the design with the lettering on the side of the coin could help it with people who will thinks it look neat and may start collecting. I is really going to depend on what designs they deside on for the faces on whether it will be good or not.

As much as I like the idea of using dollar coins, I just don't think this will be practical. See how our past dollar coins from the 70's to present have done? They're not very popular or widely used. Even in the market place in cash registers, nobody has dollars of halves in them. They just don't circulate. The only way is to pull the paper note.

Personally, I'm tired of Presidents on coins. I'd love to see a return to the classic designs. This series does not interest me in the slightest and I still cannot figure out why first ladies (who are not even elected; they're just baggage that come with our elected President) would be on gold coins. I'd be more interested in gold coins with the President's pets on them.

I have to agree with gary Burke, BUT I am not a big fan of the mint because I believe they are greedy and only cater to the big volume dealers. NOW, I know that it a great economic stimulant and also a great Recruiter for getting people interested in the world of coin collecting

I think what upsets me the most is that the prez is in silver and his old lady is in gold, Isn't there something wrong with that? No offense to our ladies here, but the wifes were not ELECTED!! har har har--BUT yet their coins are in gold? Don't make much cents to me---[:p]

Well heres my 2 cents

I personally dislike the lame presidents on our coins. They are rather boring and should stick to pictures on walls not coins.

But on the other hand. It is nonetheless a new design. Its another step that the mint is taking to changing our coins even if its not a huge leap or anything like that.

So no matter how you feel about them you do have to admit it is a small step from the same thing for 70 years

I myself don't like the same person on all the coins. But I like US coinage. Many presidents to decorate the coins.

Any pics of these famous presidential coin designs? or are they just on plans for the moment?

I pretty much agree with Susan, but then all the First Ladies weren't "baggage," with Elenor Roosevelt being a prime example.

I think the idea is good. It's educational and will have a popular appeal and will be over in 7 or 8 years.
I'll be wanting to collect the "Copper/Nickel" circulating Presidents. Will they also make these in Silver? But the gold First Ladies will be just too expensive a series for me.

The mint in my opinion needs to stop being a business and get back to focusing on business strikes.
