iI bought one of these from the mint,I never thought that it was really special,but while browsing through ebay I realized that the cheapest they were going for was 80.00

I did not think that any proof 2009 American Eagles were offered for sale by the US Mint yet. Mint site says that they are suspended and it has been that way since sometime in Jan 2009.

I think what you might be seeing is the Lincoln Proof Dollar coin.

2009 proof? The US Mint has not released them yet, are you referring to the 2008? It sold out early and the price shot up but the mintage is low but not as low as some other dates.

When Silver spikes and people get excited.....it affects silver coin sales too !
And I think it was early last year when Silver was up to around $18.00 an oz.
