Perhaps 10 years ago, I got some good advise and purchased three IKEA LED goose neck lamps. They have served me well, but by now, two of the three lamps have frayed where the cord enters the base and should be replaced.
So what are the current recommendations?
Economy is favored.

Chute, I use one of these USB-powered lights. The light ring is covered with 2 paper towels as a diffuser. The clamp and goose neck are really nice, and it has several light and power options. Only problem was that after a few weeks a wire came loose on the inside of the switch and I had to open it up to repair it.

Chute72,
If those lights served you well, wouldn't it be cheapest to replace the cord?

If "Economy is favored.", buy a new cord.

Depending on the cost of a new cord, you could even buy a used one from a garage sale or secondhand store.

If these are the same IKEA lights I have, then replacing the cord is not possible without destroying the assembly. They are cheap for a reason, and that is because they are disposable.

If that's the case, any clamp on type desk lamp with a LED bulb will be fine.

jbuck nailed it. The cord frays where it enters the base and it is not easily disassembled.
