Many photos were taken for this coin. Looked on Coins and Canada for the Variety and it seems lacking. Calling a repunch 9 is accurate enough I guess but haven't seen any with this raised area on the left of the last 9. For a while I thought maybe the build up of metal in the hook of the 9 might be something but I don't know. Here are the best pics after attempting a straight on photo session.

There were 4-5 repunched '93's with the last 9, but that's not one of them. We included 3 of them in the 65th (2011) Vicky variety section in the back. That looks to me like a die chip in the gap between lower loop and the top part. I've looks at 100's and 100's of '99's and not seen that chip. so maybe it was on it's last legs.

That is an 1899 not an 1893. So I'm not sure what is being referred to about the 4-5 9's being listed.

Yes, I know that we are talking about 1899's, not 93's. I have 5 of the R/P'd 9's in the 1899. I didn't say that there were 5 listed, only that there were more than what we listed in the 65th Charlton.

I am unable to load any more images to this post, as my new computer (3 years after I made the images) doesn't allow me to attach ... maybe too big. There are 2 more with the underpunch at 10-11:00 and another with the underpunch at 4-5 lower right of the tail. The actual punch that they used to repunch was in a different, fatter font than the other 9.

RogerD .... If what your initial post was about concerns the deposited metal in the gap between the tail and the upper part, again, that looks like a die chip. If what you were referring to was an underpunch showing left of the knob and tail, that's one of the R/P'd 9's if the photo were clearer. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I believe it's a die chip not a repunch.
