And please - just grade the coin, not entering in any instantiated factors.

Obverse is in-between. Focusing solely on Liberty, it is a VG-10. However, the last laurel leaf at the back is stronger than even the F-12 photograde. Reverse of the coin is F-12, imo. So, I agree with paralyse that this is a VG-11.

Thanks. Confirms this is just a 10 by PCGS's own standards. Sooner or later the buyer who pays 12 money will regret it.

panzaldi - defend your F-12 grade, please

i never grade a coin based on one marker. I look at the overall coin for the sharpness of its devices.

obv. - the ear has more definition than a 10 as well as all the leaves where 75% of them still have their tips separated. the lips are more rounded. stars and lettering have sharper edges. I agree that LIBERTY is closer to a 10 but looking at only one marker is not prudent.

rev - rim is sharper and more defined than a 10, leaves on the olive branch are more rounded. the tail has a tad more feather separation and imo the lettering and overall look of the reverse is a little better than a 10.

could it pull a VG10. Yep. imo there is enough meat there that it could cross to a F12 and therefore my grade

My first reaction was F-12 the laurel curl and at least 50% BER of Liberty clinches it then the overall eye appeal takes any doubt away. Reverse no issues F12 also. Even in a VG10 holder one could expect paying a premium for this coin. Tough date in any grade above G6 I like this coin and love all Barbers.
500 dollar coin all day long.
