I've been told/read many times that Peace dollars don't tone like Morgans do. This doesn't seem to me like natural toning.

Why would Morgans tone differently from Peace dollars? They are both made with 90% silver and 10% copper. Not my area but I think it is natural, but I do not like the look or the fingerprint.

I'm not an expert by any means...but I've also read that they just don't tone like Morgans...maybe do to the fact that they didn't sit around in bank vaults in bags for as long?
FWIW...if I were a coin Dr...a common date 23 would be a low risk coin to experiment with...

I'm guessing natural. It appears to have had another coin laying on it on the reverse in an environment that caused the toning. I'd be careful while purchasing and not pay too much of a premium unless it was certified.

Not market acceptable toning .
This coin has definitely been played with .
In reality, there is neither natural nor artificial
toning in the Coin World . All that matters is
what the grading companies feel is market
acceptable.

The fingerprint kind of gives it away
I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.
