Hello, I'm new here as you can tell, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I've recently came across these two 1983 pennnies where there is this strange, well I really don't know what to call it in the lower section of the 8's in the date. You'll have to forgive me for the photos as it's the best I could get for anyone to see what I'm talking about exactly. Has anyone ever seen this before? I can't find any information or photos that are similar to these. Thank you.

It's customary to post full, large and sharp pics of the obverse and reverse. Helps to establish context for what we're looking at. Thanks.

Thank you. And I do apologize for that and also for posting in the wrong section as well, I just now noticed that. Here are a few more pics of the two pennies that I'm referring to. I only took of the obverse side. Hopefully these help and as you look at the 8 on each coin you'll notice the affected area which I'm speaking of and as to the closer pictures earlier.

Thank you jbuck! I'm very excited to be here and to share some of the super cool finds from coin roll hunting. I'm fairly new to this, only been hunting for 2 months now but I must say I'm having a blast and learning something new everyday.

Earle42, thank you. I checked that out about blistering. I must say that it does look very similar to that. Only thing that puzzles me is that I have two of these that are almost identical in the exact same area. I'm not sure of the chances of it happening like that to two of them lol.

Not a blister. It's a die chip. Every coin struck with that die will have that chip.

Good eye to spot those. Not worth any premium but still fun to find!
