Hey everybody, I found this 1936 Buffalo, nickel with a blob of extra metal on the reverse on the buffalo's rear end area.What do you think.

The xtra metal, or what ever it is, was not on the coin when it left the mint 88 years ago.

Most likely it is solder, putty or glue that was used to attach the coin to a belt buckle, bracelet, tie tack or something similar.

You can try to soak it in acetone to see if it is glue and if it will dissolve and come off cleanly. If it's metal it will not come off cleanly . ever!

Other than the spot of "what ever it is" it is a nice "fine" to "very fine" coin!

I'm with westernsky, there were many pendants, money clips, and turquoise jewelry pieces made with these nickels.

I agree with something on the coin,try an 100% pure acetone soak overnight and let us know the results.

Try giving it a pure acetone soak and see if it comes off. It's PMD.
