So, I've been collecting for 20 years but am having a lot of fun going through my collection, having only recently taken the time to learn more about the various "errors" and variations...

today I found the quarters in both 1981 and 1982 proof sets both have the obverse/reverse rotated by about 10-15 degrees. Barely noticeable, but pretty cool nonetheless.

One penny in an uncirculated set (sorry I cannot remember which date/mint) the penny had some Cud on it... that was pretty cool too.

And on my 2005 uncirculated, one of the quarters (I believe it was Kansas) was placed in he mylar upside down....not really a coin error, the coin itself is fine... but it's coin related, right?

And last but not least I had actually forgotten about the 1996 W dime!

S.A.M., I think, today, more so than when you started collecting, you're gonna have to learn a little about photography for coins. An unexpected by-product of the new collector and the age of the internet. But mostly 'cause...

Ok, Ok, simmer down over there!

Here's a couple of pics, lest I cause a riot!

The penny & dime didn't come out well, my camera is too old and crappy. I didn't try real hard, even on these ones because I already know that... my camera is too old and crappy. At 2.0 megapixels any fine detail is darn near impossible... detail through mylar? forget it!

Looks like I'm going to see about either buying a new camera or permaborrowing my mother's, since she doesn't know how to use it anyway.

I gotta be honest, I don't think I've seen a heads/tails flip like that. I've seen 2 coins in one "pocket"...Very cool!. And I dig the 1982 set as well.

Sometimes when you do something that doesn't really work out well for you you feel it is a wasted effort. Kind of like something nice for your Mother In Law!

I think 2MP is enough for detail. Just make sure to set the focus to Macro, aka the flower symbol.

David: that is what I use. The key word is "MACRO". If your camera doesn't have this, it really won't give you want you want to see on a coin. Also a microscope is also as important.
