Hi,
Does anyone know what might be the story on this 1696 (?) William III shilling? The obverse looks normal, and the reverse is incuse. It's not an ordinary brockage because it's not a mirror-image. I've never seen anything like it.

@aqu, what is the weight? Does it seem thinner and lighter than you would normally expect?

Looks as if someone made it an overstrike sometime after the coins original issue
The overstrike has the letters right side up as an observation

Thank you, @Pacificoin, this is interesting to know!
@Spence, it's 5.38 grams. By comparison, my normal-looking specimen of this same type, same date, weighs in at 5.68 grams.
Someone put a good bit of effort into that retooling, though! Must've taken a while.

Curious, not a typical "press job".
