Like the title mentioned I went to transfer a bunch of counter stamped cents from an old HARCO album into my Whitman albums. After much muscling I got the plastic coin holder part out of the album page. It was like the plastic had almost fused with the plastic page. Upon taking out the first LWC where the coin had been in contact with the plastic it had left behind a green ring. If it's not PVC what is it and should I give the coins (about 180 of them) an acetone bath? Or what should my appropriate next steps be? Thanks in advance.

Edit: I could be just imagining things but the coins coming out of this album almost seem to have a 'varnished' look.

Acetone will reduce (and occasionally eliminate) PVC residue with looooong soaks. That's been my experience. Try it on a sample to see what happens.

Sure sounds like PVC Poisoning to me..
As stated, Acetone should be your first attempt to clear it up.

How will I know if the PVC is gone from the coins?

Now this is just me...
But I will no longer use acetone on copper coins! EVER!
90% silver or even gold...but not copper.
Try it on an inexpensive copper coin...and tell me you can't tell the difference in the color tone...?
It's kind of pinkish when I do it.
I'm not going to recommend what you should do about yours...but I was very fortunate when dealing w/my Father's UNC WLH's short set in a Harco album. They were just as you discribed..."a green ring".
I was able to do a quick 3-5 second dunk in the blue pool (replacing the pool fluid everyother coin) and they still retained their luster.
Hopefully...BadTad will read this and give you some sound advise.
Good luck and I'll be watching this to see where it goes!
