Now, if I had $10k-$50k to blow on just one coin, it would have to be the most expensive Ike I could find. I agree with the agree with the agree. Although Bust Halves are much better than Ike dollars!

Okay by me. I do not want extra demand driving up the price!

Thank you for the additional comments. I will certainly research and educate myself about the coins you all suggested for consideration. As I mentioned previously, I'm more of a world coin guy along with New Jersey coppers, so I will have to do quite a bit of learning.
Let me emphasize again, I'm NOT buying an expensive coin for investment. I'm buying an expensive coin for its "numismatic value". A coin that at the same time has a good potential for value appreciation. Because (like most of you), I do not want to "blow away" money on one single vanity.
It's like a rare classic car. You want to enjoy it and use it, but must maintain it and make sure (as much as possible) that it will appreciate in value. Because if you pass it on to your heirs, it may not be appreciated by them like you did, but at least it could be sold for a value that justifies you owning it for all the years you had it.
For the Meiji I will start a different thread because it's a topic in its own right.

@Brandmeister Very interesting background info on the Nixon Ike dollar! So it was eventually "restored" with the milky surface removed? Who did the "restoring"? Was the Nixon provenance ever confirmed?

That's a question for Jbuck and the other Ike enthusiasts. I barely know enough about Eisenhower dollars to be a hazard to my own wallet! =P

What an interesting topic - I'll have to think on this for a bit before answering (besides - I have dinner cooking right now)

While I'll never say never my current collecting philosophy won't allow me to spend that much. That's not to say I wouldn't spend that much, I recently got a 2024 Mustang Convertible which is as much a frivolous purchase as a $50k coin, but spending that much in one coin is not something I can see my self doing. The Mustang is also more fun than a coin.

Thanks @brandmeister!
I was going to buy it when silver hit $100 an ounce but I decided not to wait so long.

@hfjacinto Very nice car you got there! I bet it's a lot of fun to drive! But can you put it in your pocket like a coin?

Yours may be a hypothetical question, but you can get some great ideas at the website of one of the CCF members: https://fairfaxcoins.com/
