Hello all, any idea what this stamp means or what its purpose may be? The only thing I could find is that it may be a chop mark but couldn't find this exact stamp. Is that normal? Just curious. Coins are my thing but it doesn't stop me from looking at every bill I come into contact with. I can't help it. Thank you in advance for any help/advice or even idk. Have a great night.

I think it says "Heritage Bank" - probably just a teller's stamp.

It's damage from an overstep. Spend the $50 before inflation eats it away.

In a word, no.
United States paper money is printed without any miscellaneous annotations or stampings.

It's paper folks. People have been known to occasionally write, scribble, draw and deface our paper currency.

Looks like a wrapping band stamp that went partially astray.

There are three separate "Heritage Bank" organizations listed on Wikipedia: one in Australia, one in Ohio and Kentucky, and one in Nigeria.

I think we can rule out the Australian one, since Australian banks don't use chopmarks on foreign currency.

If it's a chopmark, then it's the Nigerian one. If it's overflow from a mis-applied bank strap, then it's the Kentucky one.

I'm leaning towards that last one, simply because of the "missing bit" at the bottom. Plus, this note doesn't seem to have seen much service in Nigeria; paper money doesn't stay this pristine for long in tropical countries due to the adverse climate.
