It definitely looks like it could be a doubled die from the images provided - but of course that could change with an in-hand inspection. I would like to see this coin in person so I can take a closer look and add it to the site if it's the real deal. Contact me if you would consider sending it in to me.

I feel that those are some serious notches and grooves on that lettering. The ES of STATES is pretty convincing. I also like the looks of the lettering in UNUM and PLURIBUS.
I would be shocked if this were not a doubled die. :-)
So it's a 1992 D Huh:-)....I know I haven't seen one yet. I'll say Congratulations now, I'm pretty convinced.
I would urge you to have Chuck look at it and photograph it:-)
Have Fun, Bill
PS: You have more luck at this than most....I am thrilled with your finds!

thanks foundinrolls it's packaged and will be mailed tommorow. and thank you I usually stick to wheat I really have a hard time with memorials thats why I tried to take pics from different angles so I got my fingers crossed. that would be pretty neat if it is . would that mean I would have a "discovery coin"? and I would and should have took pics of the whole coin but I just was not sure so we will soon see thanks again colleen

Don't jump on the discovery coin thing just yet. Besides Chuck there are several other people like John Wexler, and Ken Potter, for example that record new varieties. When something could be new, it has to pass "muster" and be checked with all the other major coin attributers.
Chuck knows exactly how that all works too so if he feels it's completely new, he should be able to ascertain if it is a "discovery coin" .
I can only say that although I don't keep a file like Chuck, John or Ken, I have searched through millions of cents and I have not seen a 1992 D with these attributes on the reverse and I check everything:-)
Have Fun, Bill

This has to be a case of improper lighting to look through and photograph coins.
909records - are you using two independent light sources for your photos? If you are, that's the problem. Lighting two different areas of a single corner will make it look like two corners.
This is such a bummer, I thought we really had something here.

Darn...I was hoping! Great point on lighting. My QX5 often creates something where there is none, and it's often due to using 2 light sources.
