Spring cleaning continues with this one found in a box of Jefferson's marked Nineteen sixties!! Feel free to comment on grade and or value. Try to make your comments educational please. If you guess at the grade that's fine but please say so. The Jefferson series is popular with newbies and its often helpful to have more seasoned members explain grading. That's just put a major damper on the amount of replies to this thread now hasn't it... the coin

I would also say MS-63, full steps and tri-angle above the columns.

The coin is MS. Although not FS (full steps), I still think it qualifies MS63. I have to ask, is that a scratch on the reverse. This would substantially lower the value.

Yep its a scratch. I need to pay more attention to my loose coins... Started putting them in 2x2 flips but its a long slow process...

This appears to have a blue toning, perhaps and I hope that is what I see on the reverse to the left of the building. The obverse image looks like there is just the very slightest of wear on the high points, almost like being in an empty pocket for a day by itself. Base of bust, and collar, jaw cheek and eyebrow all look lightly "touched". There are a few light contact marks but only one stands out on the cheek and the other on the reverse, the long vertical scratch between the first two pillars. This has about 4 steps IMO. They are not unbroken, not all complete so I think it nets about 4 step rating. The strike is medium to strong, it has a eye catching look. I'd be proud to own it, but my instinct tells me it might be more anywhere between AU58 and MS62. I want to say 63 like the others, but I also see some rub ( a fairly good size area ) on the wig above the ponytail. Now it might be my screen. This is my honest opinion. Having it in hand and using a picture can play tricks. I hope I'm wrong and they are right but it cannot be graded better than MS63. It is eye candy, it is a really nice looking coin which gives it an extra point just for eye appeal. I'm betting it looks better in hand under a 4x magnifying glass than it does here.

Short version, I estimate MS62 figuring there is more color to it than the picture shows which I mistake for wear. Blues and dark gold?

MS-62 is where I would put it. Really nice large pics so it was easy to see there isn't full steps. Don't know how much it rubbed up against the other coins over time. Is that where the haziness is from? or is it the pic? Hard to say. Seems like it picked up some rub along the way sitting in there though. I honestly can't go any higher. Would value it at about $3.
