The outer layers of a 40% silver coin are 80% silver; in effect, making it an 80% silver coin as far as how it appears to visual examination.

Looked it up and found the correct info. You are correct and I guess I have tried a 40% silver half dollar and didn't even know it. Thanks for the info on the coin. (I was thinking it was 90% silver... I guess when you assume....)
