G'day, another milestone. To mark this occasion, I will give away AUD $10.00 of current circulating Australian coins. Coins will be from circulation, although most will be near-unc. There should be enough to nearly complete a type-set, plus a smattering of commemoratives.
The coins will go to the first CCF member to correctly answer a "Who Am I ?" question.
Eligible: to mark the international nature of CCF, and to level the playing field, in the sense of making it a little easier for me to frame the clues, the competition will be open only to CCF members resident OUTSIDE AUSTRALIA.
Competitors may submit one answer per day (being a CCF-day, as defined by the CCF-clock, at the top of the screen.)
I will supply some starting clues, and each day or so, I will supply one or more additional clues, until we get a winner.
Background: as we are all CCF members, the answer is not totally outside the topics that we are interested in. I am writing this on ANZAC Day (both where I am, and in CCF-time), and that is also relevant.
CLUES: I am an iconic figure in Australian history. I was born in the Colony of Victoria. I died in the State of Victoria. My parents migrated to Australia, from Europe. They are usually described as "Prussian", although their place of origin is not in modern Germany, as we know it. When I was a boy (about 12), I met another iconic figure in Australian history. We met in New South Wales. He gave me a coin, and some advice. He died within 3 years. Later in life, I often recounted this event, and that I had adhered to the advice, although I never disclosed what that advice was.
More clues tomorrow, if necessary ...

I'm going to guess Roy Longmore (one of the last ANZAC veterans), ANZAC day being commemorated by a coin issued by the Perth Mint? He was born in Bannockburn, Victoria 1894 while it was still a territory, died in Melbourne in 2001 after it was a state and was a 'digger' and bomb maker...if this is wrong I guess I'll have to wait for more clues.

G'day, I was waiting for midnight to roll-over, in CCF time, for the next clue, and DeadMunny snuck in with the correct answer. Sir John MONASH is now seen on our $100 note. For a short summary, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_MonashThe 100th Anniversary of his birth was marked by the issue of a 5d-stamp. Named after him: a university and a municipality in Victoria; a town in South Australia; and a suburb in the national capital; and countless streets all over the country. My mother attended his funeral, as did nearly every one else in Melbourne. Mum said there were more people on the street that day than on VJ Day in 1945. Special mention goes to OneJinx & WheezyDog: the other "iconic figure" mentioned in the clues was Ned KELLY. In 1878, in Jerilderie, Ned asked young John to hold his horse. Ned gave John a half-crown, and some advice. Many years later, Sir John would often say that he had adhered to that advice throughout his life. It is fascinating to wonder what that advice might have been ... DeadMunny: please PM me with your postal address. Also: are there any particular coins you would like included in your prize ?
