bought some morgans from an online local auction. Looking at the pic, any idea why one is toned and the other not? they have been stored in these grading flips since 1985/86. Is the toned one anymore valuable? Does the IGA grading offer anymore value?

Your questions have no simple answer. They remind me of the riddle, "how high is a tree?".

They both look nice. I'm not familiar with the grading company but I like to buy odd and older certified coins. As for me I would pay a slight premium for the old certification as I'm interested in them and I personally would pay a little more for the toned 1889 as I like toned Morgan's.

After googling ICG I didn't realize they have graded that long ago. I like ICG and feel they are not bad at grading. I have a few icg slabs and I think the coins I have are accurately graded.

The tag reads IGA not ICG. Neither one is well liked by most collectors.
Some collectors pay a premium for toned coins if it catches their eye.

the coin could have had that tone on it before IGA 'graded' it
but here is their web site:
.. Well the Forum has blocked this 'grading company's' site address. Must be for a good reason...

the picture does not show the toning so it happened after grading, I have 4 more with a small amount of toning around the edges.

Also from my research, IGA was in business only from 1985 to 1987, I bought a total of 13 of these and the dates are all in that time period

The IGA holders add a premium and should be kept with the coins.
